No fancy video today friends, but this one is soooooo important. I really struggle with a critical spirit. It is a part of my gifting, to discern …and speak truth; but it often manifests as a critical spirit. It is so easy for me to see how “others” could IMPROVE. To my family I am afraid it must sound like I am always critiquing others…or to put it plainly “fault-finding” However a part of my “new song” this year, is to avoid that critical spirit. So, as the prophet Thumper says, “keep it zipped unless you are saying something that will build others up.” You have heard of the bucket challenge, but I wonder how many of you will join me and take the Thumper Pleadge in 2019. The Chinese Calendar declares it the Year of the Pig, but let’s make it the Year of The Rabbit. If we do slip and say something “helpfully” critical of anyone else lets work hard to come up with two sincere compliments, for that person, and speak them aloud. If you have a buddy in this challenge, ask them to hold you to this rule.
Here I will include the text from The Message. I normally like to encourage you to grab your Bibles, and look up the verses, but this is so good.
Let me know if you will join me in the pledge and please share any comments, suggestions, or ask a Bible question.
PS- Shout out to my friend Bernard Lloyd who is following from England and from friends in Canada, Swaziland, and Ireland. Post a note, so I can welcome you aboard. Share PastorJim.com so we can sprinkle the Web with God’s Word. …it can’t hurt, right? : )
Ephesians 4:29-32 The Message (MSG)
29 Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift.
30 Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted.
31-32 Make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk. Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you.
